Mickey Muñoz

No Bad Waves: Talking Story with Mickey Muñoz (Hardcover) by Mickey Muñoz. No Bad Waves: Talking Story With Mickey Muñoz is a hardcover book portraying the story of legendary Californian surfboard shaper Mickey Muñoz. As one of the early pioneers of big-wave surfing in Hawaii and the inventor of the ‘Quasimoto’, Mickey tells the tale of how there are “no bad waves, only a poor choice of equipment and a lousy attitude” across 175 pages. A combination of original photographs and inspiring texts portray time spent on the beaches of California and Hawaii during the ‘50s and ‘60s.

Born in 1937 and raised in New York City, Muñoz began surfing at ten years old in Santa Monica, California. Known for being a part of the elusive Waimea Bay crew in 1957, for his innovative board riding, shaping skills and stunt double appearances he developed a stance known as ‘Quasimodo’ whilst also gaining the nickname ‘The Mongoose’ and still rides today.
