Designer and vintage enthusiast Shinya Hasegawa founded Battenwear in 2011 with a focus on creating purposeful, practical designs that reflected his love for surfing and outdoor clothing from the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s. Based in New York City with a satellite office in Topanga Canyon, California, Battenwear menswear is designed for the adventurer who seeks well-made apparel and accessories suited to time spent in both the city and the great outdoors. Taking note from personal moments before and after surfing, during family picnics and business trips between either Battenwear office, the brand offers the wardrobe that Hasegawa wishes for himself for everyday purpose.
Influential elements from historical adverts by Patagonia, LL Bean and The North Face help to direct overall styling but a great hybrid of ideas and inspiration are what have led Battenwear to develop its own personality within an ever-growing industry, built upon a love for nature and the need for practical gear.
