Nike Challenger OG Shoes

Unveiled in a monochrome colourway, these Nike Challenger OG Shoes are an accurate reproduction of the original 1979 design and feature updates across material and construction to ensure a high quality finish that doesn’t take away from the classic appeal of the original running model. The uppers are made from a combination of fabrics with a durable mesh overlay across the toe vamp and tongue, lightweight nylon across the side panels and suede around the heel and front of the shoe. The white lace fastening flows between a shaped suede border with zig zag eyestays on either side of the narrow tongue which has an almost raw edge for minimal bulk and an improved fit around the top of the foot. A woven label bearing signature Nike branding wraps around the top edge coloured in black and orange for a flash of colour. Cut from smooth leather, white Swoosh tick emblems have been placed on either side of the foot with tips that continue around the heel below a shaped overlay tab above and a wider suede panel below. Additional ‘Nike’ lettering has been embroidered onto the back of the shoe for further branding. Throughout the shoe a soft lining improves comfort further whilst underfoot the rubber outsole is accentuated at the heel and features an exaggerated waffle tread pattern for reliable traction.

Released a year after the famous Nike Air Tailwind which made history during the Honolulu Marathon in 1978, the Nike Challenger offered a solution to common issues found within running shoes of the time - weight and fit. Through the use of lightweight yet durable mesh, nylon and suede materials, the low-cut model provided breathability and durability as well as essential flexibility that assisted in the natural running motion. Additionally, the zig zag eyestays allowed wearers to tighten or loosen the pair, an element that wasn’t commonly seen at the time.
