Always in Colour Community Climb
The first of many, last weekend a few members of the AIC team ventured up to Dartmoor to host our first Always in Colour community climbing event. Bringing together people from across the South West for a day of bouldering, good food and the chance to meet like minded individuals in a setting rich with unique topography and granite outcrops.
The day was spent at Bonehill rocks, one of Dartmoor’s favourite climbing spots and a location deeply embedded in local climbing history. With the weather on our side and flapjacks in hand, we moved our way round to 'Warm up Slab'
Food for the day was heroically delivered by Mike and consisted of a greatly received order of Banh Mi’s from our favourite cafe in Ashburton: Rafikis. Thank you to all the staff who accepted a twenty person order on a busy Saturday. If you are ever in South Devon, we highly recommend a visit. As the day progressed prizes for Dartmoor Trivia, the Best Slam and the Best Climb were handed out, with Lucy winning the best non-handed slab move. Other spots for the afternoon included the classic sandbagged 6B ‘Rippled Wall’ which saw impressive climbs from Liam (@advanced.rock) and Beth.
The end of the day was marked by a tug of war, won after a couple of tumbles by Danny, a quick climb at ‘The Wave’ and by some much deserved resting time spent taking in an unprecedented moon rise over Haytor. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make our first AIC community climb possible. Be sure to keep an eye out for updates on any future events.
