The name Birkenstock is the family name of the brands founder Johann Adam Birkenstock; the name was originally registered as a shoe-making brand in 1774 in the small German village of Neustadt. But it was Johann’s grandson that made the revolutionary breakthrough in later years by experimenting with crafted insoles that mould to the shape of the foot, opposed to the traditional flat footbed.
Few shoes, especially of the sandal variety have endured such times as Birkenstock. This is widely due to the brands neutral aesthetic design and the engineered Birkenstock footbed that is contoured to match the shape of a healthy foot. The toe grips being in the right place for your feet and the use of a prominent arch support means that Birkenstock' work to provide you with a healthier fit.
