Norse Projects first established itself in 2004 as a streetwear boutique and art gallery in Copenhagen. Run by founders Tobia Sloth and Mikkel Grønnebæk, the duo were operating a chain of skateboarding stores named Streetmachine in Copenhagen, Paris and San Diego before progressing into offering a curated range of their own designs alongside other like minded brands, from a small city centre store. The brand has gained a strong following thanks to its quality focused, fuss free designs. Inspiration is taken from the militaria, their influential Nordic surroundings and their understandable appreciation for the great outdoors.
With respect to their Scandinavian roots, collaborations with London-based artist Daniel Frost and graphic designer Matt Luckhurst celebrate Greenland’s infamous landscape and both Denmark and Norway’s noted hiking culture, whilst the brand’s utilitarian-orientated wardrobe staples, such as their all-cotton t-shirts, collegiate Oxford shirts and lambswool sweaters pair form with reclaimed street-specific fashion. The brand’s continued partnership with Gore-Tex addresses their ongoing ode to outdoor performative functionality across each and every transitioning season, whilst their archived work alongside the likes of adidas, Consortium and New Balance celebrates the brand’s cross-genre appeal and distinguished sense of character.
