Folk Clothing
Inspired by their constantly developing design story and collection of references, Folk clothing collections achieve a balance between utility and practical everyday styling through pieces made from selected textiles that offer comfort and sophistication throughout the warmer seasons. Launched in 2002, Folk is a London based brand that boasts a quietly elegant aesthetic which attracts those who appreciate the finer details of clothing and accessories. Founder Cathal Mcateer became bored of people buying clothing for the sake of branding and sought to launch his own brand with an ‘everything means something’ attitude, ensuring that details are at the heart of each design alongside a considered use of colour, fabric and cut. With a strong love for learning, balanced with having a good time both outdoors and within a city, Mcateer designs seasonal collections of classic styles and silhouettes suited to fans of contemporary casualwear seeking less obvious, everyday essentials.
Achieving timeless appeal, silhouettes are often boxy and reminiscent of favourite designs from the ‘50s whilst a muted colour palette allows for personalisation, and of course subtle yet effective details are at the heart of each design. Showing their appreciation for up and coming artistic talent, Folk add further personality to their clothing through collaborations with the likes of painters Alfie Kungu and the Goss Brothers and more recently references have been pulled from the work of Olafur Eliasson and Blinky Palermo.
