Gitman Vintage
Launched in 2008 after the brand’s then creative director Chris Olbdering discovered a line of books revealing an archive of print designs dating back to the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Gitman Vintage pays homage to the rich heritage of the original family-owned brand and the history of shirt production. Originally founded by Max Gitman in 1932, Gitman are one of the few shirtwear factories left in the USA and are passionate about keeping their heritage alive.
Offering modern renditions of classic pieces constructed with attention to the original techniques of third and even fourth generation shirt makers, each season Gitman Vintage chooses a new selection of fabrics from history that are then presented across tweaked silhouettes. Honouring the importance of history whilst continuing to stretch the boundaries of shirt based collections, designs can vary between a classic button down in chambray to a colourful repeat print that together capture the excitement and enthusiasm behind Gitman Vintage’s connection with classic shirting styles.
Distinguishable from the norm, Gitman Vintage shirts also play canvas to timeless trademark features including double track stitching, a reissued 1978 woven label, signature chalk buttons, a back collar button, box pleats and locker loop as an indication of their understanding of tailoring and how shirt construction has changed throughout time.
