Nike Daybreak-Type Shoes

As a reimagined style of the ‘70s, these Daybreak-Type Shoes have an airy mesh upper and exaggerated stitching which together reference the look of early prototype models developed by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. Accentuated by bursts of team red and racer blue with light grey overlays and turquoise coloured stitching, the mesh upper provides lightweight breathability during everyday wear whilst suede borders around the toe vamp and traditional white lace fastening strengthens the finish of key areas. The padded foam tongue has a woven label wrapped around its top edge which shows ‘N.354’ branding with a stylised Swoosh tick below and around the back of the heel a similar design can be found which helps to highlights the model in addition to stitched Swoosh tick outlines on either side of the foot. A reinforced plastic heel panel helps to protect the design from repetitive abrasion and throughout the shoe a soft fabric lining improves comfort further. As a key feature of retro running styles, the accentuated waffle tread pattern sits below a white midsole and supplies a high level of grip for wear across different terrains.

Recognisable for its deconstructed look, the Nike Daybreak-Type Shoes demonstrate a prototype stage of the design process experienced by Nike founders and the current design team during the creation of innovative new designs. The mixture of materials used gives the silhouette a stand out effect whilst ensuring all-day comfort and durability at key areas such as the toe and heel. Famous for changing running footwear forever, the iconic Waffle tread pattern remains firmly in place and adds a performance element suited to casual and more active wear.
